E-Invoicing: NRS Sets July 31st Deadline for Compliance.
This week, the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) issued a public notice that should get every large taxpayer’s attention: compliance monitoring under the National E-Invoicing & Electronic Fiscal System (EFS) regime is now active.
The message was direct. All large taxpayers who haven’t completed onboarding, integration, testing, and invoice transmission have until 31st July 2026 to get it done, or face regulatory and enforcement action.
For a lot of businesses, that deadline just turned from a line item on a compliance to-do list into something far bigger.
The notice also carried a point worth calling out on its own: businesses must ensure they receive only compliant e-invoices with a valid Invoice Reference Number (IRN) from their suppliers. Compliance isn’t just about your own outbound invoicing; it extends to what you accept in. An invoice without a valid IRN is a red flag your business needs to catch, not pass along.
